- 'Shakespeare & his London' Guided WalkLondon Bridge Tube Station (come out via the Tooley Street exit & we will be across the road), London
Come along on Sunday 11th May at 1:30pm for a guided walk on William Shakespeare and the London he lived in!
About the walk
William Shakespeare (born 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon) came to London in around 1592 and stayed until 1613. He wrote 38 plays, 154 sonnets and 2 long narrative poems before retiring back to Stratford.Today he is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. He is the most quoted writer in the history of the English speaking world and many of his quotations have passed into everyday usage. His plays have been translated into every major language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.
But, we know so very little about him and his life. There is not a confirmed drawing or painting of him created during his lifetime or even a confirmed description of what he looked like. There are also quite a lot of mysteries and unanswered questions surrounding his life, which we are unlikely to ever find the answers to.
Due to the Great Fire of 1666, World War II bombing and a clear out of the slums in London during the 1920’s and 30’s, there is very little that remains of Shakespeare’s London, but there are some things!
During the walk I will tell you about him and how he changed the English language, his friends, contemporaries, his influences and what life in London was like in the late Elizabethan period.
The guided walk will be led by myself.
The walk takes about 2 hours and finishes near St Paul's.

- Thames Foreshore Visit - Isle of Dogs!Island Gardens DLR Station (outside the station), London, AL£6.00
Running through the heart of London; the River Thames has played a central role in the history of the city, and when the tide is low, the capital’s longest archaeological site is revealed.
Come along on Sunday 12th May to explore its history!
About the foreshore
I will be your guide as we will be going down to the Thames foreshore at low tide and walking along the foreshore, where we will have about 1h 30mins to have a look around for objects before the tide comes in.I will tell you more about foreshore, the industry in the area and will be on hand to identify and date objects you find. Most objects you can spot sitting on the foreshore after being washed in on the tide (we are not allowed to dig or scrape the foreshore surface).
You will find everything from bits of pottery, clay pipes, bottles, animal bones to ship items. Most of the things we find are from the Medieval to the Victorian period or you might be lucky and find something Roman or older.
